Q: Can anyone recommend good lesson planning software for elementary?

A: Ask your textbook producer. For example, HRW has a decent lesson planner. The best software I have seen for an Elementary type plan is using a database like Access or FileMaker and creating your own that better matches what you do. Ask other teacher at your school what they use also. They often have an old program or Spreadsheet/Database template with good ideas.

Q: For elementary school, how could a teacher make up a lesson plan that involves presentation software.?

A: I think you're asking for ideas on using presentation software in the classroom. The most obvious way is to set up your lesson as a slide show. This is great because your lesson will be well-prepared and organized, and you won't be wasting time writing things on the board. Start by making an outline of what you want to include. Keep it basic, just use single words and short phrases. Avoid using full sentences and paragraphs - you will elaborate on everything when you speak. The visuals will just help students remember and realize what's important. You can also create games and activities with presentation software. For example, set up some multiple-choice questions, and create "animations" so that the correct answer is highlighted when you click. You might also be able to do things like matching activities, and have students come up and drag a text box to the appropriate column.

Q: Has anyone used an online teacher's planner by Teacher Created Resources? (or the computer software)
I'm trying to find either software or online version of the old fashioned teacher's planning book. I have access to lesson plan software, I need the calendar/week at a glance kind of thing....

A: I've never found one that suited me so I made my own using a calendar template in MS word to keep up with monthly events and I used MS Excel to create a grid that shows my week at a glance. Each week I input the lesson plan info. onto the new grid. I save it each week by date. At the end of the year I have a complete list of the lessons I taught for the year. Good luck! :D

Q: what is a good electronic midi keyboard for childrens piano lessons software?
my 7 y/o daughter has expressed serious intrest in learning piano, i plan to buy software that will teach her to play, and i need a pc midi keyboard , but i have no idea where to even begin to purchase a midi keyboard for the lessons.

A: Don't waste your money on the software or a keyboard. The computer will not teach or monitor proper technique. Unless you pay in the thousands for a good keyboard, she will have no chance at even moderately good piano technique. Improper technique can result in painful, lifelong injuries. In addition keyboard technique is completely different than piano technique. If you are prepared to pay for a good keyboard look for a Korg or a Kurzweil. It will start at about $3000.

Q: What's the best free software I can use to prepare lesson plans?
Thanks Inconclusive: Not sure a word processor can do what I need. I'II check out your 2 links. What I'm looking for has to be calendar-type with a possibility of long 'events' (5-10 lines). I've tried Mail (good but difficult to edit long entries) and Entourage Calendar (short entries only).

A: I assume by a "lesson plan" you mean a syllabus of what you plan to teach. That can be done in almost any word processor. Free word processors include the one included with OpenOffice, as well as AbiWord. http://www.openoffice.org/ http://www.abisource.com/

A: You can register in online meeting softwares like http://webex.com/ http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/livemeeting/default.aspx

Q: Does anyone have any ideas on lesson plans for teaching computers to grades 1 thru 6?
Has anyone seen any websites that talk about how to teach children the computer? Has anyone found any books that teach adults how to teach children software programs like Word, Excel, Power Point and how to use the Internet?

A: My son did small projects. They kept a journal last year (gr 3) and were encouraged to use graphics. For excel, you could use it when the math teacher is covering tables. I don't know that they teach Power Point until grade 6 or 7 in my area. Here are the websites I found: www.lessonplans.com www.forlessonplans.com/computers/index.php www.lessonplanspage.com www.teach-nology.com/teachers/lesson_plans/computing www.velsoft.com/pages/elementary.html lessonplanz.com/Lesson_Plans/Computers___Technology www.ecsu.ctstateu.edu/depts/edu/lessons/computer.html hope this helps.

Any software program out there? Thanks in advance! God Bless!!

A: You won't make your voice better from a shitty program. You need a real teacher.

A: Take a look at what the Virtual Homeschool Group is doing. The website is at http://www.virtualhomeschoolgroup.com/. They are using Moodle as their LMS (learner management system). You can access information about how to get Moodle for your own site at http://moodle.org/. The Visrtual Homeschool Group also uses live, online classrooms from Elluminate. You can try out Elluminate's free 3-seater classroom by signing up for it at http://www.elluminate.com/vroom/. Live, online training for both of these platforms is available at the VHSG too. I hisghly recommend joining the VHSG Ning social group. It was just set up this week so not many members are yet on, but it is an easy place to start getting to know the people that know and ask your questions. You can access the VHSG Ning group by clicking on the link on the right sidebar on the VHSG homepage. It is a friendly group, you will learn a lot there.

Q: Classroom Planner Software?
Does anyone know where i can download free classroom planner software? I'd like one which includes seating charts, grade books, lesson plans, and/or bulletain boards. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

A: I will be looking at your answers because perhaps someone has used a program that will benefit me as well. My suggestion does not have everything you are looking for, but it is my favorite software that I have ever used. Gradekeeper is updated almost yearly. It is written by a teacher and he knows what we need. It is primarily gradebook software, but it does seating charts, posts grades to web, prints multiple reports ( probably my favorite thing about it) and is fully configurable to your grading style. It is not free, but the minute cost really is a steal for lifetime updating. very highly recommended. I use gradekeeper in combination with google calendar to keep all my info. Since google calendar allows you to create tabbed calendars, I create one each for dates, lesson plans, student behavior and parent contacts. This allows me to print them all out separate or view together with simply a click of the mouse. good luck, hope this helps

Q: I need a program that can put videos on my website as well as make an independent site for topics.?
I have a website where students of English can get, for free, printable lesson plans for self-study, or teachers can use them in the classroom. Each lesson has a 'Feature Video' to further explain the printable lesson, and also a 'TV Channel' full of videos related to the topic of the lesson. The software I used to make the channels is no longer working (tried on three computers and nothing), so I need to replace it. I was using NVDO (Pro) and the Lite version before that, for one year, with absolutely no problems. Just suddenly stopped working. My XP machines say "some parts of the file could not be uploaded" while my Vista machine says I have a missing .dll file. (I uploaded the missing .dll file but it still says it's missing). Any ideas or recommendations for alternative software? Here's the website: http://www.englishnowtv.com

A: Hello On this page you'll get the requested information. http://www.instantvideosites.biz/

A: Well basically she/he wants you to analyse the lesson plans the teacher used, the textbooks, teaching methods, how the kids reacted, did they get the work done , what the classroom looked like and what the school and principal's office looked like and relate it to Bloom's theories. I gather you're going into teaching as a career, you should have learned or be learning this stuff so it shouldn't be that foreign to you at this point in the year.

Q: What makes a tech savvy teacher?
Is it attitude or knowledge of specific minimum of hardware/software packages? How should a tech-savvy teacher create lesson plans? What is the mix of off-the-shelf apps, teacher-created projects/apps and traditional media (books etc.)?

A: A tech savvy teacher is one who is comfortable with a wide variety of hardware and software, and integrates it into lessons frequently in the classroom. A tech savvy teacher may not have all the answers but knows how to find the answers. A tech savvy teacher encourages and promotes creativity and ingenuity using technology. Lastly, a tech savvy teacher will be one who has a variety of technology available in the classroom, either through individual personal purchases, grants, or donations because the tech savvy teacher knows that hands-on access is the only way to become fluent with technology.

Q: Help teachers please...?
I am writing a lesson plan as part of an assignment for my BEd and was wondering, what computer software is out there that is similar to microsoft excel but a bit more user friendly for younger pupils i.e. year 2? I need something where you can input data (e.g. measurements) and you can use the software to produce a simple bar chart. Is there anything that does this? I'd be really grateful of any suggestions, as i really want to use this feature as part of my lesson plan but Excel is a bit too complicated for year 2. Any suggestions? Cheers xxx

A: There is software called 'Blackcat' for making graphs/pictograms which I have used with Y2 and Y1. Have a look on the TES website in their resources section, and on the NGFL website too, they used to have a 'graph maker' programme for children that you could download but that was a couple of years ago. All the best
