Q: How do the Kelley Blue book, Used Car pricing services, determine the prices of used cars?
Every used car has a "Blue Book" price, and depending on the wear/tear on the car, can have a low/medium/high value. How do they get this information?
A: Through sample surveys and research with dealers and individuals. They then look at historical selling patterns and calculate a price range. Basically they conduct an ongoing market analysis of the car market.
Q: Is there an easy (and quick) application to look up used book prices using my cell phone? (Alltel Axcess Web)?
I sell a lot of used books online and I want to be able to look up their selling prices quickly on my phone when I'm at a used book sale or garage sale. I have seen people at book sales who have actual portable scanners that they use to scan bar codes on books that tell them instantly how much the book will sell for online. So I have multiple questions:
1. Is there an easy way (or application) that I can use with my Alltel Samsung phone Axcess Web to accomplish this? I was able to look up prices by going to Amazon.com on my phone, but it was so tedious and it took so long that it's almost not worth it.
2. Regarding the portable scanners I've seen people using at book sales, where can I buy one of these and how much will it cost (both for the scanner itself and monthly fees)? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
A: This technology may be available through other companies, but I know that Nextel/Sprint has aggressively pursued this technology. As for other applications -- I'm clueless. Alltel isn't the strongest provider out there and doesn't even provide service in my area (I don't think).

I am looking at where to find old books? Do you know of any maybe privately owned or cheap used book stores/shops other than "half-price books stores"???
A: this place close to china town
Q: Why don't auto dealers offer anywhere near Blue Book prices on used cars?
I looked up my current car on Kelly Blue Book online. According to that, my it is worth around $8000. However, I can't find any dealer who offered me more than $1000 for it. I always tell them "You have my phone number. When you come to your senses, give me a call." but I never hear back from them. It seems dealerships aren't as desperate as the media purports.
A: LOL when they come to their senses? And by your logic, business is bad, therefore a "desperate dealer" should pay MORE for your car? We don't make a living by overpaying and underselling you know.
First off KBB is a joke. It has been for some time. I dont know of a single dealer who has used KBB in the last five years. Their numbers are not reflective of the current market at all.
When a dealer puts a value on a car, the baseline number we use most of the time is the sale results from the prior week's auctions. That is the most current value in the market. Lets use your car as an example.
I would look at the results from last week, and find out that those cars are selling for, lets say $1200 at auction. Well, I need to offer at or below that to protect my finacial interests. If I offer more than that, the car would need to be an exceptional piece, and one I think I can retail out of. Otherwise, that auction figure is my safety net. If I cant sell the car, I know I can take it to auction and get about 1200 for it. That way, even if I dont make money, I am not getting burned.
I am interested in knowing what you have that you think there is a $7000 value difference.
ADD: Asker, please tell us the yr, make, model, trim level and miles on your car.
Q: I stumbled on a website with the words "fetch" and I think ".ca", which summarized used book prices Cant find!
It was a website that had lists of books from all sorts of used book places, and listed them from the cheapest on up, per title. I think it was a ".ca" domain.
A: You're talking about www.alibris.com. If a book isn't listed, you use their Book Fetch service to continue to scout for newly added books which match the book you are interested in finding.
Q: Is there a Blue Book for prices on used Lawn Tractors?
I am looking for an amount to sell my 2001 Cub Cadet with 56 hours on it. I have a trailor to pull behind and an aireator. It has an attached 42" mower. Always kept inside for storage.
A: About half of the original purchase price.
Q: Does anybody know a good store that buys back used books at 50% of the book's original price?
I live in New York City and I prefer selling the books at a store nearby and not through online. All my books are used but all of them are good as new. The books are mostly accounting, literature and computer science related.
A: sorry but i think that your best bet would be online. when i was in college that is where i bought all my books. chheper than the bookstore for me and im sure the seller recieved what he/she wanted in price.
good luck
Q: Do you think paying half price for used books is too much?
I have a nice used bookstore and my books are priced half price which is the standard rate for used bookstores. My books are in excellent condition. Do you think that half price is asking too much? What do you pay? If you own a used bookstore, what do you charge? Are customer's not buying your nice, half priced books because they think they are too high? I would appreciate your comments.
A: i have only been in a used book store once, and i cant say for all the books but prices i was looking at were between £1 - £3 for the more known books i.e. chocolat half price isnt a bad price to charge for books, just cant have half price across the whole range as some are so common you can get them loads cheaper elsewhere and some are uncommon so you could pay alot more else where.
I generally buy my used books from play.com as i can find lots of ones i like for £2 free p&p

Q: How to get book for the value of used car?
This book used only in delear shop or DMV to know the price of the used vehicle.

Q: What is the best book to use in understanding stock option pricing?
I want to completely understand the pricing models, but I want a book that lays it out very clearly and well- one that makes it very easy to understand. Can you please help??
I want to understand fully, not just because I am interested in trading them, but I'm interested in designing them too. I would like a good book that outlines the pricing variables clearly and eaisly to help me understand all that goes into figuring prices.
A: For you to understand option pricing at more than a superficial level you will need a certain mathematical level. Ideally you will have had calculus and will understand the basics of differential equations and how to solve them.
Assuming this, there is a very good book by John Hull which is called "Options, Futures and Other Derivatives" which is very expensive new but which you can get used for probably $60 used. It will be worth the money.
This is the only options book I ever read (an earlier edition) and I have been trading derivatives since the early 1990s.
Q: Have you ever purchased a used book signed by the author?
How often? And are you willing to pay original retail price?Assume the book is in like new or very good condition.
A: If it is a non-living author and the book is in like new condition, it would be worth the original retail price.
Q: where can you nfind out the book price of used cars,uk only?
A: Try Parkers price guide, out monthly in most newsagents, asda's etc. Look in the motorcar / bike section on the shelf.
Q: Is it possible to get close to the kelly blue book price value when you sell your used car?
that price takes into account the depreciation due to mileage and age and whatnot so why not?
Sorry if this seems a dumb question. I am very young and haven't sold cars before and this woman called and said "You do realize you are asking almost what it is listed in the kelley blue book for?" as if that were madness to her
A: Absolutely, I've used it as a guide when working a deal. It lets me know the ballpark figure.
